How ChatLume works

ChatLume is a fully static website. When you open a chat export file, it is read and processed entirely within your browser using JavaScript. The file is never sent to any server. By default nothing is kept beyond your current browser session; the optional Persistent Storage (Beta) setting described below keeps a copy on your own device only.

What data we collect

None. ChatLume does not have a backend server, database, or analytics that track individual users. We do not collect your name, email, IP address, or any personal information. We do not read, store, or transmit your chat files.

Cookies and local storage

ChatLume uses your browser's localStorage to remember small preferences: your theme, display settings, whether you've dismissed the install or sponsor prompts, and — if you use Persistent Storage — which stored chat you opened last. None of this contains chat content. We set no persistent cookies and use no tracking technologies.

Third-party services

ChatLume loads zip.js (from jsDelivr) to read ZIP exports in-browser, the Phosphor icon font (from unpkg), and a cookieless, self-hosted Umami page-view counter. None of these receive your chat data.

Your chat data

Your chat files are processed locally in your browser's memory. They are not indexed or transmitted anywhere. Unless you turn on Persistent Storage, they are not written to disk either: when you close the page or reload it, the data is gone.

Persistent Storage (Beta)

Persistent Storage is off by default. If you turn it on in the viewer's Settings, each export you open afterwards is copied, unchanged, into your browser's private storage for chatlume.app (the Origin Private File System), together with a small record of its name, size and message count. This lets ChatLume reopen the chat without you picking the file again.

Stored chats live only in that browser on that device. They are not uploaded, synced, or visible to any server. Anyone who can use that browser profile can open them, so treat the setting like leaving a document on the device. You can delete individual stored chats or all of them at any time from Settings, and clearing the site's data in your browser removes them too. Turning the setting off stops new copies but keeps existing ones until you delete them.

Stored chats are ordinary browser site data. Depending on your device and browser settings, that data may be included in your own device or browser backups, and it may be removed by the browser's storage-management features (for example when disk space runs low). ChatLume has no control over either.

Children's privacy

ChatLume does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.
